Caring Tips | Ice Cream Birthday Parties: WE ALL scream for it, who wouldn't??!!

I scream, you scream, WE ALL scream for ice cream!! Ice cream on a hot summers day can instantly transport us back to our youth and the sweet sound of the ice cream truck. Creating these same sweet memories with your little one has never been easier thanks to some amazing party decor from Meri Meri and Oh Happy Day!  So the next time your six year old shouts “ICE CREAM!!” you can not only pull out a frozen treat, but also transform your house into an ice cream palace!  Here's everything you need to get started!

Decorate

Setting the scene can have a big impact for the birthday boy/girl and their small quarantined group. Even during these times, we still feel it’s important to decorate and celebrate - maybe now even more so - just on a smaller scale. Look for hanging decor that can be used again and again! This type of quality decor is sometimes pricier than the dollarstore variety, but it looks way better, lasts longer and doesn't just end up in a landfill (#ecoconscious).  Following the party, hanging ice cream honeycombs can be displayed in a playroom or bedroom and cardboard ice cream trucks can become the new set of wheels to join the pile of toy figures we ALL have lying around! Shop Caring Confetti’s ice cream decor.

Music

Curate a sweet playlist of songs about ice cream with some upbeat kid’s bop songs that will get the energy rising. As a parent, your playlist may have to take a VERY dramatic turn for the day, but trust us, it will create such a fun and perfect atmosphere. For a more palatable option, check out Sam And The Womp’s single ‘Ice Cream Man’.

Virtual Guests

Involve local friends and family in the party! Connect with them via Zoom and FaceTime on the special day and share a virtual ice cream cone together. Or, if you want to get ambitious, plan ahead and share the birthday joy by pre-purchasing gift cards from a local ice cream shop and drop them off at your guests’ houses before the big day. Let them know that there’s an ice cream cone waiting for them and ask them to take a picture or video of them enjoying their treat to send along to the birthday boy/girl.

Activities

1. Combine a home science lesson with ice cream making! Follow these steps below to create a personalized ice cream treat AND ace a homeschooling lesson all at once:

 Ingredients

  • 2 Tablespoons of sugar
  • 1 Cup of half and half cream
  • 1 ½ Tablespoons of chocolate syrup
  • ½ Teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 1 Gallon Ziploc bag
  • 1 Quart Ziploc bag
  • Ice
  • ½ Cup of rock salt

 Instructions

  • Add sugar, half and half, vanilla extract and chocolate syrup to quart sized freezer bag and seal tightly.
  • Fill gallon freezer bag halfway with ice. Sprinkle ½ cup of rock salt over the ice.
  • Place your quart-sized bag inside the gallon bag and seal.
  • Double check your bags to make sure they’re well-sealed! Shake bags vigorously until ice cream forms.
  • Top with sprinkles, cherries, more syrup and enjoy!
        2.  The Internet is filled with ice cream specific crafts and step-by-step activities to make the sweetest little art. Try making some paper mâché ice cream sundaes via Art Bar! If the ice cream doesn’t bring back some nostalgia, the smell of glue and newspaper is sure to hit the mark! Side note: This activity MAY induce moments of frustration, higher than normal blood pressure and, most definitely, frequent use of paper towels and cleaning sprays. We found repeating the mantra “Let It Go” helps ;).

        3.  When in doubt, grab some play-doh and make your own colourful creations of the perfect ice cream cone!

        Ice Cream Themed Gifts

Ice cream inspired products are becoming more and more popular these days and we feel like they're too cute to leave out!  We've sourced the best Canadian owned items that are sure to be a hit with your little one.

Enamel pins come in so many different styles and designs that there is bound to be one that fits your party theme!  They can jazz up school bags and coats or can be added to a pin flag collection and displayed in a bedroom.

Caring Confetti carries ice cream enamel pins from Penny Paper Co. which is a Canadian company run by Toronto-based designer Lindsay Stephenson, who has a knack for creating bright, colourful and unique products.  Shop enamel pins.

Look no further for the perfect popsicle bag that proudly displays every child's favourite treat.  Fluf bags check every one of our company's guiding principles:  high quality, beautifully designed, and eco-conscious.  Shop fluf bags.

        Last But Not Least

An ice cream party isn’t a hit if it doesn’t include messy faces, sticky hands and small sugary drops all over your floor. Stocking up on wipes (many, many wipes) will have you well prepared for an epic ice cream celebration. When it’s all over and your little ones are fast asleep (with remnants of chocolate syrup on their mouths), we can’t guarantee you won’t go to bed with the sounds of ice cream truck bells ringing in your head.
